Riley's 2 year well check was this morning. She did really, really well. They had her stand on the scale to get her weight and she walked right up to it and stood there calmly while the weighed her. Then, they took her height measurement by having her stand with her back to the wall. She did just as they asked! After that, we went into a private room where they checked her vitals. They even put a blood pressure cuff on her arm. I was a bit surprised by this. The nurse said they used to not do that until the child was at least 3, but that they were required to now start trying it at age 2 if the child was cooperative. Amazingly, though a bit nervous at first, Riley sat calmly by herself in the chair and watched the numbers change on the machine as the cuff squeezed her arm. I kinda wish I'd had my camera with me. She did so well! I mentioned her fever from the weekend to the doctor and said we thought it might be her molars coming in, but the doctor said that teething usually didn't cause temperatures to rise that high. She thought it might've been a virile infection. Sure enough, the back of Riley's throat was a bit red, indicating that she'd had a throat infection, but was on the mend. Poor thing. Riley also had to have her finger pricked for a lead test and then she received only one immunization shot (Hep A). She was NOT happy about that, but she was much better once she got a Minnie Mouse sticker as a reward.
Her 2 year stats:
Height: 35 1/4" (90%)
Weight: 31 1/2 lbs (90%)
Head Circumference: 49.6 cm (94%)
Blood Pressure: 106/68 with a pulse of 132
- She wears size 3T tops and 2T bottoms, though she can still fit into 18 month pants, her legs and too long for anything but 2T. She jumped from a size 5 1/2 shoe to a size 8!!! That was rather shocking.
- She wears size 4 diapers.
- She drinks primarily from sippy cups but is learning how to drink from regular open cups at daycare. That should prove interesting. She'll take sips from straws and from water bottles very well as long as we are holding them for her.
- She still has her paci. She only uses it only for nap time and night sleeping or if she is really, really upset (but that's rare)
- She is now drinking 1 and 2 % milk. Her pediatrician says 1 % is all she really needs though and only 3 glasses a day.
- She loves to eat, but can sometimes be very picky. She will eat most of her veggies without a problem. She has gotten picky about chicken in her food though. If there are large chunks of chicken, she will pick them out. She loves fruit. She loves Nutella sandwiches, but has a habit of peeling the bread apart and putting the pieces Nutella side down on her dining table in a straight line and then eating them one by one. hahaha
- Riley LOVES to play with her lego blocks. She's never happier than when she sits on the floor with someone and is building large towering structures that tend to fall over as she tries to carry them around the living room to show them off.
- Riley likes to pick out her own clothes occasionally. She will sometimes go through her drawers, grab a shirt and pants and bring them to us to change her into. She will also bring us her socks and shoes when she wants to wear them.
- She loves stickers. Stickers are better than candy!
- She still comes to me with booboos looking for kisses to make them better. I can't help but love that.
- She can count to five and say her alphabet up to the letter G. After G, she kind of just mumbles and hums the rest of the alphabet song. Very cute.
- She loves to play with Omie's iPhone and shocks us constantly with her success at manipulating it.
- She still no closer to potty training and doesn't acknowledge even having a dirty diaper. I'm hoping this will change soon. She's moved up to the two year old room at daycare and they put her on the toilet several times a day to start training. So far, it hasn't done much other than let her know the toilet is there.
- She talks, and talks, and talks. Sometimes it sounds like she's speaking a foreign language and its pretty funny when we finally figure out what she's been saying… such as, "Choo choo sounds!" when she hears the choo choo coming at the mall.
- Riley loves books as well and will bring ALL of them to us one by one if we let her. She flips through rather quickly, then says "all done!" and goes to get another one. She's just recently started letting us read them to her. Only once have I actually gotten through an entire book without interruption though. Amazingly, it was the book called "I'm a Big Sister." I find that rather promising. LOL
